According to the World Sports, the Madrid Municipal Government approved the renovation project of Real Madrid Club around the Bernabeu Stadium, which will cost 19.6 million euros.

The Madrid Municipal Government approved the renovation project of the Bernabeu stadium proposed by Real Madrid on Thursday, which will cost 19.6 million euros, all undertaken by the club, aiming to better integrate the stadium and its facilities into the surrounding residential areas. Acting Mayor Sans said at a press conference that the revised 2018 project will make the public space more coordinated with the newly renovated stadium. She also mentioned that an important reason for the revision was to adapt to the expansion of the Santiago-Bernabeu station on Metro Line 10, which will extend to the Lima Forum.

Sans stressed that the project will be supervised and implemented by the engineering and equipment departments and will "restore a large amount of walking space" for local residents. After the renovation, the space in the area will be increased from 14,500 square meters to more than 40,500 square meters, an increase of 270%. In addition, a new greening area of 4,500 square meters will be added, more than 300 new trees will be planted, and all pavements, public lighting systems, irrigation systems, sewer networks and urban drainage systems will be updated to optimize stormwater management. Improvements to traffic lights are also under planning, with two new pedestrian crossings on Concha Espina and Padre Damián streets, and 36 resident parking spaces (including reserved for persons with reduced mobility), 19 non-resident parking spaces, 16 motorcycle parking spaces and 6 taxi parking spaces. The four major remodeling areas, the mayor explained that the revised project will improve all streets and spaces around the stadium and can be divided into four main areas: Rafael Salgado Street, Concha Espina Avenue, Castellana facade and Padre Damián Street.

Specifically, the renovation of Rafael Salgado Street has been completed because it belongs to an unmodified part and its surrounding “sideway area has increased significantly”. For Concha Espina Avenue, construction has begun on unmodified parts, and sidewalks will be widened, including sidewalks adjacent to residential buildings and sidewalks adjacent to the court, with sidewalks that will remain in two-way two-lane.

On the front of Castellana, a large fully pedestrian square of about 20,000 square meters will be formed, restoring the 1982 World Cup garden and continuing the one-way bicycle path from Raimundo Fernández Villaverde through Lima Square to Castilla Square.

As for Padre Damián Street, the sidewalks will be widened to double the current size. The Sacred Hearts roundabout will be reconfigured to make it a perfect circle by widening the sidewalk and restoring the partitioned roundabout landscape.
