Marcos Thomas Perez, a 62-year-old Miami native, was accused of stealing millions of dollars in Heat game jerseys and other precious souvenirs and selling them to online sellers.

The U.S. Department of Justice issued a press release on the Heat souvenir theft case: "A former Heat employee appeared in federal court for the first time today and was accused of transporting and transferring stolen goods in interstate trade."

During his tenure, Perez was responsible for the security of the Heat Arena game day and was one of the few people with the right to enter a protected equipment room. The equipment room houses hundreds of match-wedding jerseys and other souvenirs, and plans to display the items in the Future Heat Museum.

Perez entered the equipment room several times during his tenure and stole more than 400 game jerseys and other souvenirs worn by players. More than 100 stolen items sold for about $2 million in three years and sent them through interstate shipping, which sold far below their market price. For example, he sold a jersey that James wore in the Finals for $100,000, and the same jersey was later sold at the auction house for $3.7 million.

Police searched Perez's residence in April this year and seized nearly 300 stolen items. Sources revealed that the federal investigation was launched in early 24, and the stolen items include the game equipment of well-known players such as James, O'Neal, and Wade, worth millions of dollars.

Marcos Thomas Perez is a retired police officer with the Miami Police Department, with a police age of up to 25 years and retired in April 2016. He served as a security guard for the Heat from 2016-21 and as an NBA security guard from 22-25.
