Busquets: I know I am getting closer to retirement and hope to play two more games

In an interview, Spanish veteran Busquets talked about his upcoming retirement, La Liga overseas games and other topics.

The 37-year-old Busquets currently plays for Inter Miami. He has announced that he will retire after the 2025 season. Inter Miami is currently participating in the MLS playoffs. Busquets said: "Well, since I announced the news of my retirement, I know that the remaining game time is getting less and less. Now that we are entering the playoffs, we may be eliminated at any time. I have accepted this, I am enjoying it all, and I am eager to play two more games."

Busquets continued: "That will be a very good signal and a good way to say goodbye to his playing career. So , I focus on the next games, first against Cincinnati FC, which is very important. But for me personally, I know that I am getting closer to the end of my career. I am calm because obviously I have accepted this reality."

Busquets joined Miami International in 2023. He has already won the 2023 UEFA Cup and the 2024 Supporters' Shield with the team, and now he hopes to end his career with a trophy. "I'm calm as usual, I accept everything. As I just said, it would be better if I can play two more games. I encountered a similar situation two weeks ago, and to be honest, I almost accepted it (retiring at that time)."

Barcelona's La Liga match against Villarreal was originally planned to be held in Miami, the United States, but due to protests from many players and fans, La Liga eventually canceled the plan for the overseas match. Busquets pointed out: "I think a lot of things are confused. I don't think the players refuse overseas games, what they want is to clarify the conditions of participation, negotiate, let them know what will happen in the future, just like everyone else."
