. When I started getting into first-team dynamics, he had already been at Barca for many years. And, even though he was a top five goalkeeper in the world, he was very good to me and he would let me know my strengths and weaknesses to try to improve. I never had a problem with him and when he got injured two years ago he communicated to me the opportunity that was in front of me. The same happened last year when he was injured at Villarreal. He always helps me, and a goalkeeper of this magnitude tries to help you, which is something to be grateful for.

He is now in a complicated situation at Barcelona. What advice would you give him as a teammate, friend and goalkeeper? Do you think he should leave in January?

Well, this is a decision he must make personally. He has to think about recovering and getting to 100%. He's had two or three injuries over the past few years, which is really bad luck for a player. It's even more true for a goalkeeper because you lose that role. I wish him all the best in his recovery.

Have you ever talked to him? Not every day, but I talk to him from time to time. When I left, he understood the situation and he cared about me. Just like the issue before where I had to take the No. 1 jersey. He always helps me and tells me he can give me advice from his perspective. So he did. But, well, it's up to him whether he wants to leave or can leave.

The summer for Barcelona’s goalkeeper position is complicated. How did you spend it?

Well, the only inconvenience is that, in the end, it's more difficult to train. Four people are different from two people. You have to manage more load. But, well, I knew full well that I was going to leave. It was just a matter of time and even though I was training 100%, they (Joan Garcia, ‘Tek’, Cohen) made me feel part of the team. I try to improve myself and get ready for the season, that’s it.

How do you get along with Juan Garcia?

I actually don’t know him, I just watched him play. We've been in contact for a month and a half and on a personal level we're kind of (similar), he's waiting to sign up and I'm waiting to leave. We are completely professional and keep each other informed on everything. With him, to be honest, there was no problem.

By the way, how is your relationship with Yamal?

Very good, very good. In the first few practices, you could see his talent was above the rest. On a personal level, it's great too. I try to help him when I'm on the team. They were young people and everything happened too fast and suddenly. When he comes out to train, he's focused, he's the most competitive and wants to win, even in training. Hopefully he keeps that hunger up because it will eventually make him one of the best in the world.

But do you think he should reduce his exposure on social media?

Well, that's ultimately everyone's problem. If I did that, I would be uncomfortable; if he did that, he would be uncomfortable too. That's what he is. Let him enjoy it. The worst part is that he doesn't enjoy it because he is in a completely superior position that few or almost no one can achieve. Let him continue to have fun.

Is he the best in the world to you?

Yes, currently in the world. On a talent level, I "suffered" from him in training, and on a personal level, you see he's special. Just like how Leo Messi made me feel before. You look at him and say, wow! He is different from others.

Finally, are you willing to return to Barcelona next season to fulfill your contract?

Every player wants to stay where he is happy, where he spends his life, and I also have this goal. This is what the club conveyed to me. They believe that leaving Barcelona is an important step for me to gain continuity and feel my own importance. Then again, you never know the future, the world of football is unpredictable. But obviously, any player, if you ask him if he wants to go to Barcelona or not... 99.9% of them will say yes. What's more, I've been at La Masia for so many years, so that's obviously for sure.
